Czech gas water heater Mora: design, advantages and disadvantages
The Mora gas water heater is a flow-type device that allows you to provide hot water to an apartment, private house and cottage.
The column consists of an igniter, a gas burner, a heat exchanger, and a gas-water valve block. Passing through the heat exchanger tubes, the water is heated and enters the heating and hot water supply system. When the tap is closed, the ignition goes out and the column turns off. Different Mora speakers can have different types of ignition: from a piezoelectric element and from rechargeable batteries (electric). The equipment runs on natural gas, but, if necessary, it can be switched to the mode of using liquefied fuel. Such multifunctionality of the speakers is extremely important for the implementation of continuous heating and hot water supply in country houses and cottages not connected to the gas main.
In addition, the advantages of Mohr's columns include:
- Multi-stage safety system: the dispensers are equipped with overheating protection, reverse draft valves, burner flame and dry start fuses;
- High efficiency (about 94%);
- High efficiency even at water pressure from 0.2 atm;
- Thick copper heat exchanger, which, over time, will not leak;
- Well-thought-out burner design and igniter protection system from contamination;
- Quiet operation.
Disadvantages of the equipment include user complaints about the lack of parts for Mora’s old equipment on the modern market, and the rather high cost of the speakers. Although, the price of the equipment does not exceed well-known analogues (such as, for example, Hayes). So, both Heis and Mora will cost the buyer 16 thousand rubles.
Advantages and disadvantages
Using a Mora gas water heater, you can provide heating to your home, as well as a supply of hot water. The principle of operation is quite simple: after opening the tap, the burner is ignited using the igniter. And it heats the water in the heat exchanger.
The water is heated as it passes through the heat exchanger pipes and enters the heating and hot water supply system. If you close the tap, the burner goes out and the column stops working. The versatility of the Mora gas water heater ensures continuous heating and hot water supply in the house.
The main advantages of the column are its efficiency and small size. Other advantages of a gas appliance include:
The downside is the problem of finding parts for older models. Although the Mora gas water heater is cheaper than its analogues, many note its high cost.
Scale deposits in the heat exchanger
Mora heat exchangers are made of high-quality copper, 1 mm thick. The water heats up inside the tubes and scale accumulates on their walls. This leads to an increase in heating time and a decrease in pressure. The main sign of clogging of the heat exchanger pipes will be that water flows actively from the tap, but the pressure through the column is weaker.
To clean scale yourself, you should remove the casing from the water heater, drain the water and unscrew the union nuts from the heat exchanger outlets. After this, a special liquid for dissolving salts, which is sold at a hardware store, is poured into the tubes using a hose. Instead, you can use a solution with citric acid or vinegar. You will need to wait a few hours for complete cleaning.
For prevention, the heating temperature should be set to no more than 50 degrees. If the temperature is higher, scale deposits especially actively.
Fistulas in the heat exchanger
One of the most common failures of Mohr columns is the appearance of microholes on the heat exchanger tubes. To detect them, you need to carefully inspect it with the tap turned off (this achieves maximum pressure inside). Some leaks will be visible by drops of water, the smallest fistulas will be visible by green or rusty stains.
Before starting repair work, the water is drained. You can fix the problem in the following ways:
- Install the rubber gasket, securing it with a metal clamp on top. This is one of the simplest, fastest and most reliable methods. True, it can only be used if there is free space around the tube.
- Use cold welding. Before purchasing, you should pay attention to the temperature for which it is intended. Please note that the heat exchanger heats up more than the outlet water. After degreasing and cleaning, a layer of cold welding 1-2 mm thick is applied to the leak site.
- The most reliable way is soldering. First, the fistula is cleaned, degreased and a layer of flux is applied to it. Next, use a torch with a gas can or a powerful soldering iron to seal the hole. The solder should cover the tube completely. If several fistulas are close, you need to solder a copper plate to this place.
At the end, the water heater is filled with liquid, and the places of former leaks are carefully inspected. You need to check first with cold water, and then with hot water on.
Installation of instantaneous water heater
Before installing the speaker, you need to decide on the room and installation location. The room must have ventilation, and the wall must be made of non-combustible material
. Installing a column is usually straightforward and consists of the following steps:
mounting the device to the wall. Standard brackets included in the delivery kit are used.
Pay attention to the strength of the wall and its flammability; connection of cold and hot water pipes. It is advisable to install shut-off valves in front of the inlet pipes;
Expert advice:
Between the wall and the speaker body you need to lay a gasket made of non-flammable material!
- chimney connection. The chimney is connected with pipes with a diameter no smaller than the outlet of the device. The chimney material must be resistant to combustion products and high temperatures, its length must be minimal;
- main gas connection. It is better to entrust this procedure to professionals involved in the installation and operation of gas equipment.
Installation
Before installing the geyser, you must select the location where it will be located. The room must be equipped with high-quality ventilation, and the walls must be made of non-combustible materials. Installing the column is usually not difficult. Let's look at the step-by-step process of installing a Mora gas water heater:
- First of all, the equipment is attached to the wall.
- Next, use the standard brackets that are included in the kit.
- It is necessary to pay attention to the strength of the wall.
- Next, you can install hot and cold water pipes.
- It is recommended to install inlet pipes in front of the shut-off valves.
- It is also advisable to arrange a gasket made of non-combustible material between the device and the wall.
- Next, the chimney is connected. The diameter of the pipes must be no less than the diameter of the outlet of the device. The chimney must be made of a material that is not affected by high temperatures and combustion products.
- The last point is the gas connection. It is better to entrust such work to specialists.
What to do if the Mora column does not light up
If the Mora column stops igniting, it is necessary to check the equipment for depressurization (leaks) and external damage (both the housing and the power cable). In addition, you should make sure that there is ventilation draft and good cold water pressure. You can try changing the batteries in the electric speaker.
If the column does not light up even after this, then you need to:
- Clean the filter and membrane of the water intake unit from dirt. To do this, you need to hold the parts under high pressure of water.
- If there are breaks in the membrane or deformation of its edges, replace the element. At the same time, it is better to replace the old membrane with a silicone one: the service life of the second one is longer.
- Clean the ignition wick if the column ignites with pops and then immediately goes out.
- Replace the solenoid valve or servomotor if cleaning the wick does not help.
- Clean the ionization sensor electrode if there are ignition sparks, but the column does not light up.
All repair work must be carried out with the water and gas supply turned off. If the column does not turn on after all the manipulations, you need to contact a specialist.
What to do if the gas water heater does not ignite
Let's consider various solutions if the column stops lighting. The first step is to check for external damage or leaks. The power cable or the device case may be damaged. Next, you should check the cold water pressure and the presence of draft in the ventilation. If the speaker is electric, you can replace the batteries.
If you do not understand the design of geysers, then it is better to seek help from specialists.
If all of the above methods did not help, then you need to follow these steps:
- It is necessary to clean the membrane and filter from various contaminants. To do this, it is enough to wash these elements under high pressure of water.
- If you notice any ruptures or deformations in the membrane, it must be replaced. The silicone membrane has a longer service life.
- If the geyser starts to light with a popping sound, but then goes out, then it is necessary to clean the ignition filter.
- Next, you should replace the solenoid valve.
- If sparks occur during ignition, but the column does not light up, then it is necessary to clean the ionization sensor electrode.
But do not forget that all procedures can be carried out only after turning off the gas and water. If you have completed all the steps, but the column still does not start to light up, then you should contact a qualified technician.
The Mora water heater can operate on liquefied fuel or natural fuel. The operation of the column can only be disrupted when parts of the device are worn out, there is no draft in the ventilation, or when low-quality tap water is used. Minor faults can be corrected yourself.
You can buy a double-circuit gas boiler in our store.
Preventative repair work
For proper operation, the Mora water heater requires regular maintenance:
- From time to time it is necessary to replace the batteries. If they sit down, the spark continues to be produced, but its power is not enough. The standard size of the nutrients is R20 at 1.5 volts. The container with them is located at the bottom of the device.
- If you have hard and dirty water, you should clean and change the strainers on time. They are installed on the cold water inlet pipe. Failure to do this will result in a decrease in pressure over time.
- The igniter is clogged. In semi-automatic models with a wick, the jet becomes clogged with dust over time. You can clean it with a thin soft wire.
If after diagnostics you cannot find the cause of the malfunction, call a specialist.
Radiator contamination
You can find out complete information on the selection, operation and maintenance of gas water heaters (instantaneous water heaters) from all manufacturers if you go.
In addition to specific information on the site, you can also study specific problems from other people on this topic who have already purchased a gas water heater or instantaneous water heater and thus avoid them. You will find a regularly updated list of such problems and their solutions.
The radiator is made up of metal plates with a small distance between them. Since they are exposed to the flame from the burner, soot accumulates between them over time.
Gas water heater radiator
This can be seen from the yellow color of the fire. The flame can be directed not in the upward direction, but to the side, thereby heating the casing. The water takes longer to heat up even when the column is running at full power, and black soot pours out from under the device.
For repairs, you should remove the column shell, disconnect the heat exchanger pipes and completely dismantle it, first covering the burner with a rag so that it does not become clogged. The most convenient way to clean the radiator is in the bathroom under running water. If necessary, it is left to limp in a container with chemicals. At the end, it is cleaned with a soft long bristled brush, dried and installed back.
Gas water heater device
Regardless of the model of the geyser, its design includes the following elements.
- Heat exchanger.
- Main burner.
- Pilot burner.
The gas water heater works according to the following principle.
- When you open a water tap, the pressure in the system drops and the pilot burner in the column is activated.
- After which the pilot burner ignites the main burner. That, in turn, begins to intensively heat the heat exchanger, which is made in the form of a coil. As water passes through the heat exchanger, it heats up and hot water comes out of the tap.
- Exhaust gas products exit into a specially designated pipe.
This operating principle applies to automatic speakers. In semi-mechanical or mechanical ones, the operating principle is slightly different, but generally identical to an automatic burner.
Also, depending on the model, after the water heating cycle, the flame in the pilot burner remains burning, thereby maintaining a high temperature in the heat exchanger. When you open the water tap, the whole process begins again.
Geyser Mora Top: installation and operating instructions
The Mora Top line of wall-mounted Czech speakers consists of several models with different performance characteristics. In the floor-standing series, the Mora 100 NTR boiler is distinguished by its quality and efficiency. The most powerful wall-mounted model is considered to be Vega 16, capable of passing up to 15.2 liters of water per minute. The Vega 10 gas boiler is considered the most affordable of the Top line. All models are produced in a compact body and differ only in the type of ignition (models marked “E” have electric ignition).
When installing and putting the column into operation, you must follow these recommendations:
- Connection of equipment that has been in a cold environment for a long time should be carried out no earlier than after 120 minutes;
- When installing the boiler, it is necessary to leave at least 10 cm from its side walls to the nearest objects and adjacent walls;
- There should be a distance of 40 cm or more above the boiler;
- When installing a thermostat, you should use a device with a potential-free output contact: the thermostat should not supply voltage to the water heater;
- It is strictly prohibited to store explosive substances near the boiler.
The installation and operation instructions for the water heater do not recommend connecting the equipment with your own hands. It is better to install a strainer at the entrance to the system. It will allow you to extend the service life of the membrane and filter of the water receiving unit of the column, and heat exchanger tubes.
Features of Mora Top geysers
We managed to win the sympathy of buyers thanks to a number of unique characteristics inherent in modern models:
- The presence of so-called “dry start” fuses. Without water, the burner simply will not light.
- Control of burner operation using a fuse. This is how any Mora device works, a gas water heater is no exception.
- Combustion products are prevented from entering the building thanks to a backdraft preventer. Water heaters can be installed inside any premises.
- Protection with a special limiter that controls the water temperature. Overheating of the device is practically excluded.
- From 115 mm - the diameter of the gas outlet neck of Mora geysers.
- The diameter of the tubes is up to 18 millimeters. Special turbulators are mounted on the internal surfaces. They prevent scale buildup.
- The heating rate is 15% higher compared to analogues due to the design of the heat exchanger.
- Automatically maintains temperature if the water speed changes while the Mora is running.
- Fittings from the German manufacturer Mertik. At a flow rate of 2.5 liters per minute or more, the column starts to turn on.
Note! The market price of most models does not exceed 16 thousand rubles.* The consumer properties of the Mora dispenser are higher compared to existing analogues.
Advantages and disadvantages
Heating a home and hot water supply are two main issues that can be resolved by any buyer who decides to purchase gas water heaters. Cost-effectiveness and compact size are among the main positive aspects of the devices.
There are other characteristics that can attract buyers:
- The security system that Mora Top speakers are equipped with.
- High quality burner design. The igniter is completely protected from any contamination and damage.
- High efficiency, reaching 94% under any circumstances.
- Equipment works efficiently. Even pressure up to 0.2 atmospheres does not prevent the creation of such an effect in the Mora gas instantaneous water heater.
- Over time, heat exchangers do not leak. This is facilitated by the use of copper as one of the main materials.
- No noise when operating the Mora water heater.
Interesting! The disadvantage is that it is difficult to find parts for some models. Especially if they were released quite a long time ago. Mora gas water heaters are cheaper than existing analogues, but some buyers consider existing prices too high.
Operation and repair
Operating a water heater involves turning it on and setting the required temperature. For this purpose, there are two handles on the front panel of the device. The operation control handle has four positions:
- off, column disabled;
- ignition, ignition of the pilot burner;
- readiness, pilot burner burning;
- operation, normal operation of the device in automatic mode.
The water temperature knob allows you to adjust water heating from a minimum of 25 degrees to a maximum of 55 degrees.
Good to know:
the higher the heating temperature, the lower the water flow through the water heater.
The speakers are highly reliable and have a service life of at least 12 years. Customer reviews indicate that they rarely fail.
If the operating instructions are followed, then the main reason for failure is the formation of scale and salt deposits. In this case, the repair consists of flushing the water path and heat exchanger.
Over time, heating efficiency may decrease and traction may deteriorate.
A possible reason is the deposition of soot and soot. Troubleshooting this problem involves disassembling and cleaning the gas path of the column.
If more complex malfunctions occur, especially in the gas path, you must contact a service center that has qualified specialists and the necessary spare parts.

Let's look at the typical breakdowns of the Mora gas water heater and the necessary do-it-yourself repairs. Before troubleshooting, close the valve on the pipe through which gas is introduced into the water heater. Even if a non-gas part breaks, there is a chance that it will get caught.

This is a problem rather than a breakdown of the gas water heater, but rather the protection of it from possible tragic consequences!!! What kind of protection do these geysers produced in the Czech Republic have??? Like all protection against water overheating, protection against reverse draft, protection against dry running, i.e. It won't turn on without water. This column has piezo ignition... So there are several possible options for failure. For an accurate diagnosis, if the column is under warranty, then you should contact the service department first... In general, a range of these speakers are produced. Despite the fact that they are simple in design, they are reliable in their performance, and in terms of heat transfer they are generally the most economical in the world... Their efficiency is 92%... Anatoly Messages: 1707 Registered: April 3, 2013, 01:23

Gentlemen, this problem appeared with the Mora column (piezo ignition).
You have to heat the thermocouple for a very long time to hold the valve. But worse, the igniter began to go out spontaneously with a characteristic click of the valve releasing both during operation of the main burner and in “standby” mode. Externally, the igniter flame looks normal, the thermocouple does not appear to have burned out. Somewhere I came across that Mora also has an ionization sensor, but I don’t really understand how it is used, especially since my Mora does not have a battery-powered electronic unit. I would be grateful for any hint of possible reasons. Yuri

The question has been removed, I blew out the jet, cleaned the thermocouple from carbon deposits, and distorted the contacts on the traction and water overheating sensors.
Again, 10 seconds to ignite. Yuri

Well, now there will be science for other users of such geysers. Here it turns out something like this: the windshield was wiped, the wheel was kicked and... the car started up and drove off. But it is suitable for prevention. Don't touch anything else!!! Moreover, I categorically do not recommend twisting and adjusting. This is a matter for specialists!!! Good day, everyone.
I am ready to share the experience I have just acquired. I have a problem with Mora Top. The wick lights up, but when the burners (or whatever they are called) should light up, the wick goes out and the burners are silent... This kind of nonsense lasted for a long time, but, after some suffering, the column still began to work. But! The wick went out on its own sometimes. I read a little of the messages here. It's hard to climb on your own. But you need to wash yourself and the children. What to do? I decided to climb inside anyway. I took off the casing. Everything inside is scary and unclear. I noticed the hemispherical shape of the mesh. Very dusty. Cleaned it... And, lo and behold! The column has come to life!!! Apparently this is an air filter for the wick. After cleaning, I noticed that the wick flame became longer. This is how I chalked out my observations. Children are swimming. Everything is fine. Perhaps this information will be useful to someone. pc-rzn

Yeah... But how long has this gas water heater been working for the benefit of your family??? How old is he? It’s good that they didn’t touch anything further... After all, GAS is not children’s toys... In addition to what you described, other non-obvious implementations of the lack of normal operation of a gas water heater are possible. Therefore, in most cases I do not advise playing with fire, literally and figuratively... Inokkenty
