Thermal insulating polymer coating ASTRATEK metal
ASTRATEK® metal is a special composition with increased adhesive and anti-corrosion characteristics, resistant to UV radiation and chemicals (solutions of salts, acids, alkalis, some types of petroleum products).
The coating increases the service life of the insulated surface and protects against corrosion. ASTRATEK metal is used for thermal insulation of building metal structures, metal products, pipes, pipelines, industrial equipment for various purposes, as well as reinforced concrete products and structures operating in conditions of high humidity or exposed to aggressive environments. Operating temperature from - 60°С to + 200°С (short-term (1-2 hours) thermal loads up to +260°С are allowed).
The use of ASTRATEK metal coating allows you to:
— reduce or completely eliminate the formation of condensation on cold water supply pipes and air ducts;
— isolate equipment without stopping technological processes;
— reduce repair costs in the event of emergencies by reducing the time spent searching for leaks and dismantling old insulation;
— prevent temperature deformation of metal surfaces.

It is recommended to apply ASTRATEK metal to “cold” metal surfaces at an ambient temperature of +15°C and a humidity of no more than 65%. The lower the relative humidity, the faster the material dries. And accordingly, the higher the humidity, the longer the drying time.
On clean, polished metal surfaces, steam condenses into moisture at humidity levels greater than 90%. On rough or uncleaned surfaces, condensation occurs already at a humidity of 65-70%. In addition, condensation can settle on the surface even at low humidity if the metal temperature is lower than the air temperature. Therefore, before applying the thermal insulation material ASTRATEK metal, the surface must be dried naturally or forcibly.
If the air temperature is below +10°C, the metal surface should be heated to a temperature of at least +15°C, but if this is not possible, then work on applying the ASTRATEK metal material cannot be carried out. It should be remembered that when the temperature drops below +20°C and the humidity rises to 85%, the drying time increases. Therefore, it is necessary in any case to increase the time between application of layers by at least 2-3 times. For example, the polymer material ASTRATEK metal, dried at low temperatures, seems to be polymerized after the formation of the film, although the film will become completely strong only after the chemical reaction has taken place and the polymerization of the ASTRATEK metal material has completed completely.
High ambient temperatures significantly accelerate water evaporation and curing. In this case, only the top layer can dry out and “slam” water vapor inside, which in turn will worsen the thermal insulation and performance characteristics of the ASTRATEK metal material. When the ambient air and surface temperatures are equally high, this usually does not happen, so in summer it is recommended to carry out work only in the morning to avoid a significant difference in the temperatures of the metal and air. Drying the applied layer with a directed jet of heated air is NOT ACCEPTABLE .

heat-insulating polymer coating ASTRATEK® metal
Surface preparation
The insulated surface must be cleaned of rust, scale, and dirt mechanically or manually with metal brushes and dust-free. If there are untreated grease stains, degrease it with solvent 646, 647. In case of severe corrosion, treat the surface with a rust converter based on orthophosphoric acid (15% solution of water and orthophosphoric acid). When a phosphate “whitish” film forms on a metal surface, wash off the remaining acid with water, this will form a protective layer of a “whitish” surface. When applied to a previously painted surface, it is necessary to remove the old paint in places of peeling and peeling. If necessary, sand with medium to coarse sandpaper.
Padding
To improve adhesion and increase the service life of the finished coating, it is recommended to prime metal surfaces before applying the ASTRATEK heat-insulating coating. When covering “cold” metal surfaces (at least +5°C), it is recommended to use GROSS metal primer (1-2 layers) or other high-quality acrylic primer for metal. For non-ferrous metal surfaces, it is necessary to use a special primer for non-ferrous metals, type VL-023. When covering hot (more than +80°C) metal surfaces, it is recommended to use a 20-25% aqueous solution of ASTRATEK metal material as a primer layer.
3.1. It is recommended to carry out coating work at a temperature of the insulated surface ranging from +5°C to + 120°C.
3.2. It is not recommended to apply ASTRATEK metal coating on surfaces with a residual humidity of more than 8%, in strong wind, rain, fog, or frost.
3.3. When applying the ASTRATEK metal heat-insulating coating, you should pay attention to the following points: It is recommended to apply ASTRATEK metal to “cold” metal surfaces at an ambient temperature of +5°C and a humidity of no more than 65%. The lower the relative air humidity, the faster the material dries and, accordingly, the higher the humidity, the longer the drying time. Therefore, before application, the surface must be dried naturally or forcibly. It should be remembered that when the temperature drops below +20°C and the humidity rises to 85%, the drying time increases. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the time between application of layers by at least 2-3 times. For example, a material dried at low temperatures seems ready after the formation of a film, although the film will become completely strong only after all the water has evaporated and film formation is complete. High ambient temperatures significantly accelerate water evaporation and curing. In this case, only the top layer can dry out and “preserve” the water vapor inside, which, in turn, will worsen the thermal insulation and performance characteristics of the finished coating. When the ambient air and surface temperatures are equally high, this, as a rule, does not happen, so in summer it is recommended to carry out work only in the morning in order to avoid a significant difference in the temperatures of the metal and air. Drying the applied layer with a directed stream of heated air onto the surface of the coating is also unacceptable. Before using ASTRATEK, the metal must be thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous mass is obtained. When mechanically mixing, the speed of rotation should not exceed 300 rpm. If necessary, dilution with clean water is allowed 3 - 7% of the total volume. The resulting composition must be stirred periodically during operation.
3.4. The coating is applied in layers with a brush, air or airless spray, subject to interlayer drying technology, at a temperature of t = 20 ± 2 ° C and above and a relative humidity of no more than 65%. The thickness of the applied layer should not exceed 0.5 mm; the final thickness of the ASTRATEK metal heat-insulating coating is determined by the method of thermal engineering calculation. The complete drying time for each applied layer with a thickness of 0.3-0.5 mm is 24 hours. The time for complete drying of the finished coating depends on the number of layers, temperature and humidity of the surrounding air. If necessary, the interlayer drying time should be increased by 2-3 times. The coating is rain resistant after 24 hours. 3.5. Application with a brush. It is recommended to use a non-natural bristle brush for applying interior or exterior paints, as well as for painting small surfaces and correcting paint imperfections. Immediately before applying the material, wet the brush with water. When applying with a brush, to obtain a high-quality coating, movements should be directed in one direction. Recommendations for applying coating with an air or airless sprayer, as well as the necessary advice on selecting the necessary equipment, can be obtained from our technical specialists by calling +7 (8442) 47-70-30. After application, rinse working tools with water. You can apply GROSS façade acrylic paint or other high-quality acrylic paints to the finished coating. For additional protection of the finished coating from constant contact with aggressive media, we recommend applying UREPLEN® polyurethane coating on top.
Consumption
The consumption of ASTRATEK metal thermal insulation coating depends on the method of application, the shape of the surface and is more accurately determined by test application. The average consumption is: 1-1.3 l/sq.m, depending on the method of application and the properties of the insulated surface (with a thickness of the finished coating of 1 mm).
Precautions and disposal
Thermal insulating polymer coating ASTRATEK metal is fireproof and explosion-proof, does not contain solvents, and does not require special precautions when handling it. In case of contact with eyes, rinse them immediately with water. Do not allow to enter wastewater. Keep out of the reach of children. Carry out work in a ventilated area. After drying, dispose of any remaining material as household waste. The material is water-soluble; the addition of organic solvents is not allowed.

Application of liquid thermal insulation
When applying ASTRATEK liquid thermal insulation to the facade
You should pay attention to the following points:
3.1. It is recommended to carry out work on applying liquid thermal insulation at a temperature of the insulated surface ranging from +5°C to +60°C.
3.2. It is not recommended to apply liquid thermal insulation on surfaces with a residual humidity of more than 8-10%, in strong wind, rain, fog, or frost.
3.3. Before using liquid thermal insulation ASTRATEK facade
It is necessary to mix thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained. When mechanically mixing, the speed of rotation should not exceed 300 rpm. If necessary, dilution of liquid thermal insulation with clean water is allowed 3-7% of the total volume. The resulting composition must be stirred periodically during operation.
3.4. Liquid thermal insulation is applied layer by layer with a brush, air or airless spray, subject to interlayer drying technology, at a temperature of t = 20 ± 2 ° C and above and a relative humidity of no more than 65%.
The recommended thickness of the applied layer is 0.5 mm; it is allowed to apply layers of liquid thermal insulation with a thickness of 0.8–1.0 mm on plastered, concrete and brick surfaces. The final thickness of the thermal insulation coating ASTRATEK façade
determined by the method of thermotechnical calculation.
The time for complete drying of each applied layer of liquid thermal insulation with a thickness of no more than 1.0 mm is 24 hours. The time for complete drying of the finished coating depends on the number of layers, temperature and humidity of the surrounding air. If necessary, the interlayer drying time should be increased by 2-3 times. The coating is rain resistant after 24 hours.
3.5. Applying liquid thermal insulation with a brush.
It is recommended to use a non-natural bristle brush for applying interior or exterior paints, as well as for painting small surfaces and correcting paint imperfections. Immediately before applying ASTRATEK liquid thermal insulation to the façade
wet the brush with water. When applying with a brush, to obtain a high-quality insulating coating for the facade, movements should be directed in one direction.
3.6.Applying liquid thermal insulation with a spatula.
For some types of highly absorbent facade surfaces, such as plaster, putty, porous concrete, etc., liquid thermal insulation ASTRATEK façade
can be applied with a spatula, with a thickness of no more than 0.8-1.0 mm.
Recommendations for applying liquid thermal insulation ASTRATEK facade
air or airless sprayer, as well as the necessary advice on selecting the necessary equipment, can be obtained from our technical specialists by calling +7(8442) 47-70-30.
After applying façade insulation, rinse working tools with water.
You can apply GROSS facade, GROSS interior acrylic paints, or other high-quality acrylic paints to the finished coating.
In conditions of high humidity, as well as to increase the service life of liquid thermal insulation, it is recommended to apply water-based water repellents to the finished coating.
on a hot metal surface
Object: Pipeline in the boiler room.
Coolant: superheated steam, t = 120 °C.
Preparation of ASTRATEK material for work
Open the bucket with the material, mix thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Mixing should be done manually or using a mixing attachment on an electric drill. The rotation speed should not exceed 150-200 rpm.
1.1. Preparation of the primer layer: pour the material into a separate container
1.2. Dilute with water (approx. 200 ml of water per 1 liter of material)
1.3. Stir until the consistency of liquid milk
1.3.1. Mixing
1.3.2. Getting the consistency of liquid milk
Preparing the surface for applying the material
If necessary, remove rust and scale mechanically or manually with metal brushes, and remove dust from the surface.
Application
3.1. Apply the first primer layer of ASTRATEK to the prepared surface.
3.2. Allow to dry for at least 8 hours at +20°C. If ASTRATEK is used as a primer at surface temperatures below +15°C, increase the drying time to 24 hours.
3.3. Prepare a solution for applying the main layers of material in the proportion of 40-50 ml of clean water per 1 liter of ASTRATEK. Mix the resulting composition thoroughly.
3.4. Apply the main layers of material, observing the technology of interlayer drying: at a temperature of +20°C and above and a relative humidity of no more than 65%, the drying time of one applied layer with a thickness of 0.3-0.5 mm is 24 hours, in case of a decrease in temperature or an increase in relative air humidity, the interlayer drying time must be increased by 2-3 times. The resulting composition must be stirred periodically during operation.
The final thickness of the ASTRATEK thermal insulation coating is determined by the method of thermal engineering calculation. In this example, 4 main layers of coating were applied (thickness approx. 2 mm).
The top of ASTRATEK can be coated with acrylic paint. To protect ASTRATEK material from constant contact with aggressive media, it is recommended to apply a polyurethane coating UREPLEN® on top.
Possible errors when applying ASTRATEK® thermal insulation coating
Below are examples of incorrect application that caused incorrect operation and peeling of the coating.
Peeling and peeling of the coating
At this site, GF series soil was used. This material is not recommended for use with ASTRATEK coating. In addition, this soil turned out to be of inadequate quality and did not meet the required characteristics. As a result, the finished ASTRATEK coating separated from the surface of the object along the mass of the soil, which indicates its insufficient cohesive strength.
It is necessary to carefully monitor the correct preparation of the surface and use only accompanying materials strictly recommended by the manufacturer.
Peeling and cracking of the coating
At this site, GF series primer and PF paint were used as a finishing coating. Both materials are not recommended for use with ASTRATEK coating. Delamination and peeling also occurred between the layers of the soil itself, which indicates its poor quality. The use of an inappropriate finish resulted in cracking of the top layer. It is necessary to carefully monitor the correct preparation of the surface and use only accompanying materials strictly recommended by the manufacturer.
Blistering and cracking of the coating
The coating was applied too thickly in one pass. When coating hot surfaces with a layer of 0.5 mm in one pass, part of the water remains inside the layer. At high temperatures of the insulated object inside the coating layer, the remaining water turns into steam, resulting in the formation of a bubble. The bubble contains the resulting steam, and as the coating dries, the bubble swells more and more. As a result, the pressure inside the bubble increases and it may burst. To avoid this problem, apply the material to hot surfaces in successive thin layers (0.25 mm) with at least 24 hours of drying between coats.
Coating cracking
The coating was applied in summer in too thick, uneven layers. High ambient temperatures significantly accelerate water evaporation and curing. In this case, only the top layer dries and “slams” water vapor inside, which worsens the thermal insulation and performance characteristics of the material and cracking of the coating occurs. To avoid this problem, apply the material to hot surfaces in successive thin layers (0.25 mm) with at least 24 hours of drying between coats.
Once again, please note that ASTRATEK® is not a paint, but a special coating, so application must be carried out by specialists who have been trained in working with the coating, and if this is not possible, then you must strictly adhere to the application instructions and all recommendations of the manufacturer or authorized supplier of the material.
Only in this way is it possible to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation of the finished ASTRATEK® coating. Other materials
