Description
Electro-water heated floor XL PIPE is a patented development of South Korean. The coolant of the system is antifreeze, continuously circulating through polyethylene pipes 20 mm in diameter; an electric cable runs inside the pipe, which heats the liquid. This system is very economical to operate, is not afraid of being blocked by furniture, and can be installed under any floor covering with the exception of cork and boards. Installation of an electric water floor can be done either with or without a screed, using the “dry method”.
Liquid Electric Floor XL Pipe
The novelty of this system is in the structure of the heating element: pipes made of structured polyethylene (thick-walled with a diameter of 20 mm), filled with coolant. A heating cable is inserted inside the entire length. This is not an ordinary cable, but seven strands of chrome-nickel alloy with a Teflon sheath. Pipes with cable and coolant are sealed hermetically. The coolant is static and does not move, therefore, in a system of water electric heated floors, a pump is not needed, like a boiler and a collector.
Warm floor XL Pipe (XL Pipe) from the Korean campaign Daewoo Enertec - electric-water heating
Antifreeze is used as a coolant, so it would be more correct to call this system “liquid electric underfloor heating,” but that’s not the point. Everything should be installed in a screed: this way the heat spreads more evenly. It turns out that this design eliminates the main drawback of water heating: uneven heating, because the temperature of the liquid, and therefore the floor, is the same throughout. This option also does not have the common “disease” of electric heating - an electric-water heated floor is not afraid of locking, that is, you can place and move furniture and large equipment wherever you want.
Warm floors "Daewoo" can be used as the main heating or as simply heated floors to increase comfort: the heating power depends on the step of laying the heating pipes, which you choose yourself.
System composition and operating principle
As with any heating system, to operate and maintain a stable temperature, you need a thermostat (thermostat) with a floor temperature sensor. They are installed in the same way as for conventional electric floors; a special thermostat is needed specifically for this type of equipment.
The XL Pipe system consists of an electric-water heater and a thermostat with temperature sensor
The principle of operation of XL Pipe is as follows: when the power is turned on, the heating cable heats the coolant (this is antifreeze of a special composition). Heating occurs very quickly: the volume of liquid is very small, and the thermal power is decent. When a liquid is heated in a closed volume, increased pressure occurs, which promotes faster heating and uniform heat distribution (nucleate boiling). Therefore, such a warm floor reaches operating temperatures much faster than usual.
The manufacturer of water-electric heated floors Daewoo Enertec guarantees the reliability, environmental friendliness and safety of its system. To absorb excess pressure that occurs when the coolant is heated, an extinguishing system has been developed and patented, stabilizing the state of the heating element. You can probably trust them - the warranty period is 10 years, and the service life is stated to be 50 years. The difficulty is that the system is still new and reviews from the owners of this miracle could not be found.
XL Pipe Specifications
But the best part is this: they say that electric-water heated floors can be repaired. True, only service technicians can carry out the work - special equipment is used. But what is good is that for repairs you do not need to break the entire screed, and it will take several hours to repair the damage. If the integrity of the cable is damaged, the leakage zone is easily determined: liquid seeps out and a stain appears on the screed. At this point you will need to break the tie. Then, having opened the installation box, carry out some manipulations using special equipment. The repair work itself is described in the video.
Why is XL Pipe economical?
Manufacturers of the system claim that the system is more economical to operate than electric floors (20-30% lower electricity bills) and less expensive to install than water floors (no boiler, mixing and manifold units and circulation pump required).
Thus, the savings consist of two parts:
- Less financial costs at the installation stage (compared to the installation of water heated floors).
- Lower monthly heating costs (compared to electric heating).
Due to which installation costs are lower, it is clear: no boiler, mixing and collecting unit, or circulation pump are needed. Requires an electric water pipe and a thermostat with temperature sensor. But about saving on heating, it is necessary to explain: since the coolant does not move, it heats up very quickly. And no losses for heating the air at the mixing, collector unit. All the heat goes to heating the floor. Therefore the costs are lower. At least that's what the manufacturers say.
For large rooms use several circuits
Installation of XL Pipe (XL Pipe)
The entire installation sequence repeats the process of installing water systems down to the smallest detail:
- Thermal insulation of the floor and perimeter of the room.
- Laying a heat-reflecting metallized layer.
- Installation of a fixing system (metal mesh or mounting fixing tape).
- Cable layout. The only difference here is that you need to insert the ends of the pipe not into the collector unit, but into a special mounting box located on the floor. Having sealed the ends of the wires with electrical tape, they are fixed in special grooves, the box lid is tightened with bolts and wrapped with waterproofing tape. After that, the wires from the wiring box are connected to the thermostat (its installation principle is similar to the principles of installing a regulator for a conventional electric floor).
- Filling the screed.
How most XL Pipe systems are installed in a screed
As you can see, water electric heated floors in the installation are practically no different from a water heating device (except for connecting the thermostat and the electrical assembly of the system). After the screed has dried (28 days or less), you can lay the floor covering. You can see the installation sequence in the video.

Features of the capillary heated floor Unimat Aqua
Liquid underfloor heating Unimat Aqua differs from XL Pipe in that the system does not consist of one thick pipe, but is equipped with many small diameter pipes. Hence the name of the system - capillary. It is connected to a device that has a power of 2.4 kW. In this way, the coolant is heated and heat is released. The whole system is closed. Installation of an additional heating unit is not required.
The coolant in the Unimat Aqua system is distilled water. It will require no more than 6 liters. The size of the heated area that one set can heat is approximately 20 square meters. How warm the room will be depends on the thermal insulation properties of the walls and ceilings. Warm floors very quickly create a comfortable indoor microclimate.
If necessary, several Unimat Aqua systems can be installed in one room. However, most often it is used to heat a small room. The service life of capillary heated floors is approximately 5 years.
Unimat Aqua comes in two types. Basic, which includes a control unit, an installation kit, and two pieces of pipe for connections. All this will be needed to form a small pipeline. The additional kit consists of a coil of small diameter tubes, which is enough to heat an area of 10 to 20 square meters. meters.
For installation, you need damper tape, tube fasteners and heat-reflecting material. After installation, the floors are filled with cement screed.
Installation of heated floors of electro-liquid type
There is no fundamental difference when installing electric water floors from traditional underfloor water heating systems. In both the first and second cases, the heating pipes are laid under the screed.
In order to install the floor yourself, you will need thermal insulation materials, damper tape, and a metal or foil heat exchanger. All these elements are components of the layer cake, which is necessarily present when laying heated floors. The main task in the installation process that faces you consists of two points:
- properly equip a thermal insulation layer that will act as a thermal barrier. The thermal insulation layer prevents heat leakage downwards, increasing the efficiency of heating the floor surface;
- use a correctly selected diagram during installation of the heating circuit;
- install monitoring and control devices in a convenient and accessible location.
Installing an electric water floor differs from installing water loops in that there is no need to route the pipes outside. You don't have a collector. All heating circuits are connected to a distributor, which can be placed in two versions:
- directly on the floor, subsequently poured with concrete along with heating pipes;
- on the wall, at a distance of 10-15 cm from the surface of the concrete screed;
The power and control wires are led out, connecting to the thermostat. This is followed by the same well-known wet work, pouring the concrete screed. The recommended screed thickness when working with warm electric water floors is 30-50 mm. It’s not worth it anymore, there won’t be enough power, less is also not recommended. A thin screed can be damaged mechanically, causing damage to the heating circuit.
Note: there is no need to lay heating ducts over the entire area of the heated room. You can create electric water heating for a separate area of the room. The operation of such a section will be autonomous and not dependent on the operation of the home heating system.
When working with this type of heating equipment, it is better to use a double snake laying scheme for heating pipes. The recommended contour laying step is 10-15cm. Do not forget that the maximum distance from the walls for laying heating circuits is 10-15 cm.
How to install the xl pipe system?
For high-quality heating of the house, it is necessary to select the correct pipe footage for the main line. It is necessary to measure the floor base in the room. The shortest length is divided by the step with which the pipe is laid: the main is strengthened on the base in steps of 20-30 cm. The resulting number is multiplied by the largest length of the room. It is proposed to consider the following example:
- room width – 3 m; lowest indicator;
- length – 5 m; highest indicator;
- the pitch between turns is 20 cm;
- line length: 300 cm / 20 cm * 500 cm = 7500 cm = 75 m.
We recommend: What are the advantages of Heat plus underfloor heating?
For a 3*5 m room you will need 75 m of pipe. The manufacturer offers a special table that indicates the power of the heating system. In this case, the power is 3000 W.
It is necessary to make a project for laying the highway. This should be a drawing that indicates the length of the line, the method of laying the pipes, and the pitch between turns. It makes it easier to install and repair the system. How to install the “xl pipe” heated floor system?
- The floor base is leveled.
- Lay thermal insulation. They recommend technoplex, penoplex. Insulation thickness 5 cm.
- A reflective screen is placed on the insulation. Its use improves the passage of heat waves to the floor covering in the room.
- To secure the main line, you need a reinforcing mesh. It is distributed over the entire base, but is not brought close to the wall. The distance from the wall to the grid is 5 cm.
- A distribution box is installed on the floor. The installation of the pipeline begins from there.
- Pipes are laid in a “snake” or “snail” pattern. If you used the “snail” laying technique, then the first step will be 60 cm. The pipe is brought to the center and turned in the opposite direction. The second step is 30 cm. The pipe is led to the distribution box.
- Strengthen the highway with plastic tapes to the reinforcing mesh.
- To connect the cable to the thermostat, additional wires are required. The thermostat is installed on the wall, at a distance of at least 30 cm from the floor.
- The sensor is fixed on the floor. It is placed either on the pipe or at a distance of at least 3 cm from it. A short distance will allow the device to quickly detect the maximum or minimum temperature of the coolant in the pipe, and give a signal to the thermostat to turn the system on or off.
- Heated floor testing is carried out. It is recommended to use a multimeter to determine the resistance of materials.
- If the result is positive, the floor is filled with concrete screed. Maximum thickness 8 cm.
The highway does not have to be covered with a screed. Dry methods can be used for installation. The pipes are laid in a rough coating, making grooves in it. Foil is placed in them; use material for saunas. The pipes are distributed on the foil. GVL 20 mm thick is laid on top of the main.
We recommend: What is a mobile heated floor?
Next comes the substrate and cladding. The pipes can also be strengthened on a wooden base. In this case, to arrange the highway, it is recommended to make paths from plywood or use contour insulation made of polystyrene foam with bosses.
In order to avoid pipe kinks when laying the main, it is necessary to correctly distribute them on the surface. Turns are carried out as follows. Take a piece of pipe 80 cm long, make a loop, placing the edges of the pipe at a distance of 20-30 cm. Sharp corners and bends in the line should be avoided.
Warm floor "xl pipe" is an effective heating system. The manufacturer provides a 50-year warranty, but it will last longer. The first warm-up of the system is quite long, 6-48 hours. Subsequently, after warming up the coolant, the heating operates normally.

Already in the tenth year of service, efficiency drops noticeably | Significantly longer service life |
How to install Unimat Aqua Caleo underfloor heating
Installation of Unimat Aqua electric water floor heating is carried out as follows:
- Preparing the rough base is the same as for XL Pipe: cleaning, removing uneven surfaces.
- Prepare a place on the wall for the thermostat.
- A groove for the temperature sensor is made on the rough base.
- Heat-reflecting plates are laid out. They are fastened together with staplers.
- From the side where the thermostat is located, they begin to lay out the Unimat Aqua.
- When laying out the system, in the places where the mat is rotated, one of the connecting wires is cut, and the mat is turned 180 degrees. The tubes should not touch or intersect. The power wire is cut strictly in the middle. The maximum permissible strip length is 25 meters.
- The entire system is carefully glued with tape to the heat reflector.
- Mounting wires connect the mats. This is done as follows: the ends are stripped and sleeves are installed, which are clamped with pliers.
- Heat-shrinkable tubes are placed on the wires. The power cable is spliced with the connecting cable.
- The system is connected to the thermostat according to the diagram that is attached to this device.
- To connect the concrete screed to the subfloor, small through holes are cut into the heat reflector.
- A temperature sensor is installed along the rods, previously laid inside the corrugated pipe.
- Checking how the Unimat Aqua works.
- If the tubes have warmed up within 15 minutes and no failures have been identified, the heated floors are filled with concrete screed.
Liquid electric floors are an excellent source of comfortable heat. They can become either a primary or an additional heating device and will perfectly cope with their function in any room.
