    Not all errors require the participation of service specialists. For example, the absence of a torch in a piezo igniter can be caused by a failure of the primary flame sensor, zero gas fuel pressure in the line, when the head valve is mistakenly closed, or in the event of a faulty ground loop.

    Therefore, troubleshooting begins with inspecting the primary sensor, which must be clean and without damage. After cleaning the surface of the primary sensor, the boiler operation is checked again.

    First you need to restart the gas heater using the mains switch using the remote control. The South Korean company's products are resistant to unstable voltage, but if its value deviates significantly from the nominal voltage, a false fault may be displayed.

    Automated self-diagnosis complexes, in combination with boiler protection systems, prevent the most serious breakdowns almost at the initial stage. When detecting a particular malfunction, the program turns off the boiler and displays a code on the LCD display.

    The most common failures of Navien boilers:

    • E01 indicates overheating of the coolant in the boiler unit. For atmospheric ATMO models, the electric pump does not function, since in these modifications there is no heating medium flow sensor, so the pump will need to be replaced. You must first check the operation of the heating system for airiness and the presence of contamination in the filter installed in front of the boiler unit.
    • E02 indicates a network water circulation error. Error 02 on the Navien boiler is eliminated by checking the circuit for leaks. The pressure in the network is set from 1 to 2 bar; if necessary, the network must be recharged. Check the operation of the shut-off valves and three-way valve; they may be blocked. Check the operation of the flow sensor. If after these procedures the problem is not resolved, the board must be replaced.
    • E03 indicates the absence of an electrical signal due to the presence of a flame in the firebox or a break in the primary sensor line. In the Navien boiler, error 03 is checked in the inspection window for the actual presence of a torch. If it is not there, check the electrical resistance of the coils on the gas line cutoff. Monitor the presence of a spark on the electronic ignition system and the gas pressure in front of the boiler unit. The torch may come off due to the large volume of air supplied by the fan.
    • E04, false alarm due to flame in the burner. Error 04 on the Navien boiler is possible due to a leak in the gas shut-off valve or a spark from the ignition system is supplied to the flame sensor. The electrode unit will need to be replaced. If the problem persists after this, the board will need to be replaced. You will first need to check the grounding in the boiler with a resistance limit of at least 4 ohms.
    • E05, error 05 - there is a break in the return temperature sensor line or its temperature is less than 14 C. Before carrying out repairs, check the humidity at the sensor connection.
    • E06, error 06 - short circuit in the return temperature sensor line or its temperature is above 120 C. Check the electrical resistance of the sensor: 20 C - 10.0 kOhm, and 50 C - 3.6 kOhm. If the value is not normal, the sensor will need to be replaced.
    • E07, violation in the DHW sensor line. A similar sensor check as above is needed.
    • E08, short circuit in the DHW sensor line. A similar sensor check as above is needed.
    • E09, error 09 - fan malfunction. You will need to check the incoming voltage on the board in the inclusion zones of the black and red conductors. If the voltage parameters are normal, but the rotation speed is low, less than 420 rpm, it is necessary to replace the electric fan, since ignition will not occur. If the electric fan speed is 2100 rpm. and the failure is not resolved, most likely there is a short circuit in the triac line; the electronic board must be replaced.
    • E010, error 10 confirms a failure in the smoke exhaust circuit due to clogged smoke exhaust channels. It is necessary to inspect and clean the chimney, and pay attention to the air intake grille to see if it is clogged with foreign substances.

    Troubleshooting other errors

The next step is to check the integrity of the circulation pump. Make sure that it is spinning and that its impeller is moving coolant through it normally. Sometimes an error occurs due to a physical breakdown of the impeller. The worst thing is if the circulation pump fails - in this case you will have to send it for rewinding or even purchase a new model.

    We have already talked about malfunction code 02 - it manifests itself as a rapid increase in temperature followed by its drop. We also dealt with code 03. If the self-diagnosis system displays error 04, you need to check the condition of the flame sensor and its circuit. Make sure the sensor does not touch other metal parts. Sometimes the appearance of this code is associated with a malfunction of the system board; it will need to be repaired or replaced.

    Most often, control boards are replaced rather than repaired. If you have doubts about its performance, contact a specialist.

    Also check the condition of the connecting wires - they should not be shorted or broken. For diagnostics, use the most common ohmmeter.

    Here we need to diagnose the water temperature sensor in the heating circuit. Find data on its standard parameters, make sure they correspond (resistance to a certain temperature).

    Errors 07 and 08 in Navien boilers

    Double-circuit boilers give us heat and hot water. They are equipped with two circuits and two sets of sensors. For example, there are two temperature sensors here. One measures the temperature in the heating circuit, the other measures the temperature of the hot water. And the codes presented above indicate a breakdown of the temperature sensor of the DHW circuit or a malfunction in its circuit.     Eliminating errors 09 and 10

    Here are typical fault codes for the Navien Ice boiler, indicating problems with the fan. It is necessary to check the integrity of its windings and test their resistance, to diagnose the presence of an interturn short circuit. A broken fan must be replaced with a new one. If the fan turns out to be intact, you should test the control board - do it yourself if you have the appropriate knowledge, or call a specialist from the service center.

    As for error 10, it indicates difficulties in the operation of the smoke removal system. The fan may be to blame here; you also need to check the length of the chimney and make sure it is passable - cleaning will be required. Often the culprit is incorrect operation of the air pressure sensor. The worst thing is if the error appears as a result of constant failures in the Navien boiler board. The simplest wind blowing into the chimney cannot be ruled out.

    Error 13 - problem with the flow sensor

    This code is typical for Navien Ice and Navien Ice Coaxial boilers. It appears when there is a short circuit in the sensor circuit, and also indicates problems with its performance. The sensor must be tested and, if faulty, replaced. We also check the connecting wires. In rare cases, the control board is at fault.

    This code appears when the heating equipment overheats. There can be many reasons here:


    One of the rarest causes of this error is an increase in the gas supply level. Check this parameter and tighten the valve if necessary.

    • For some reason the coolant overheated;
    • There is not enough coolant in the circuit;
    • Control board malfunction;
    • Malfunction of the three-way valve;
    • The temperature control sensor in the DHW circuit is broken.

    Error 18 in Navien Ice atmospheric boilers

    This code indicates overheating of the temperature sensor in the smoke exhaust system. When it is triggered, the operation of the equipment is suspended. We check the passage of the chimney, check the sensor itself and the connecting circuits, and make sure there is no backdraft. It is also possible that the control board may not operate correctly, but this only happens in the rarest cases.

    Error 27 in Navien boilers

    The last code in our review indicates a malfunction in the air pressure sensor circuit in the Navien Ice and Ice Coaxial models. We check all connecting wires and change the sensor if necessary. As in all of the above cases, a code may appear if the control board is not operating correctly.

    Review of less common errors

    There are other less common failures that indicate malfunctions in the operation of Navien boiler units and the need for repairs:

    • E011, violation of the established parameters for the level or pressure of the medium in the heating circuit. This failure appears on the LCD display of a unit with an automatic water supply system. To eliminate the breakdown, it is necessary to disconnect the heating system, diagnose the functionality of the water make-up valve, drain the residual water in the electric pump drain, reconnect it and start the boiler again.
    • E012, error 12 - no flame in the boiler furnace. There can be many reasons; it is recommended to use the elimination algorithm as for errors E003-E004. First check whether the main gas valve is closed, there is voltage in the boiler supply line and whether the grounding system is reliable.
    • E013, error 13 characterizes a short circuit in the line or no power supply to the heating circuit flow sensor.
    • E015, error 15 - malfunction of the control board. In the event that there is no response to the supply of electricity, repair or replacement will be required.
    • E016, error 16 indicates overheating of the element in the system. Any component can overheat: the electric motor of the blower fan, the heat exchanger, the electric motor of the centrifugal pump. You can independently clean the installed filter in front of the boiler, the heat exchanger and replace the thermostat.
    • E017, failure caused by a DIP switch, you will need to adjust the control board options and restart the boiler.
    • E027, error 27 - failure of the primary pressure sensor. Check the blockage, the smooth operation of the sensor and the blower fan. If a breakdown is detected, replace the faulty part.
    • E030, excessive heating of the smoke thermostat. It is necessary to turn off the boiler unit, allow time for it to cool for at least 30 minutes, after which the unit is restarted. If the failure is not resolved, check the blower fan and the primary air pressure sensor, and clean the smoke ventilation system.

    Error code 02 - Indicates insufficient pressure inside the system. Possible causes that influence the formation of this problem: a decrease in coolant pressure in the heating system. The contact between the minimum pressure sensor and the electronic board is broken. Minimum pressure switch faulty. First you need to look at the pressure gauge readings. As a rule, the problem can be eliminated by using a feed tap, which is installed to supplement the system with coolant. If the accident recurs, then most likely there is a fluid leak. The hydraulic pump, primary heat exchanger, safety valve, damaged seals and gaskets, make-up valve and other parts may be leaking. Leakage is determined visually by inspecting hydraulic connections and components. Error code 03 - Indicates that there is no ignition. The flame ionization sensor signals a malfunction of the device. This sensor-electrode analyzes the presence of a flame and stops the operating functions of the Navien Ace gas boiler during incomplete combustion of the main burner or when there are difficulties with the gas supply. The operation mode stops after 3 unsuccessful starts. To resume operation, you must hold down the R button. Problem with the gas valve - The operation of the gas valve is controlled by an electronic board. This element is checked by measuring voltage and resistance. If it is found that the values ​​deviate from the standard parameters, the valve must be replaced with a functional one. Lack of gas flow into the device - There is a valve in the gas distribution circuit that limits the gas supply. Based on this, a failure at the moment of starting the unit may occur due to a closed tap. Insufficient contact or the pulse from the flame control sensor was not detected. The control board has a malfunction - If ignition is carried out correctly, but the unit immediately goes out, then most likely the electronic board cannot see the flame. Based on this, it is recommended to test it. Error code 05/06 - The temperature sensor on the heating circuit is not functioning correctly. This situation indicates that the temperature sensor of the heating system is broken or the permissible temperature is too high. Damage to the heating circuit temperature sensor circuit - This problem most often occurs if the contact of the temperature sensor with the electronic board is interrupted, or the temperature is below normal. 5 seconds after recognizing the failure, the Navien Ace boiler should resume normal operation if the problem occurred spontaneously. It is recommended to make sure that there is no moisture on the sensor connector and the control board connector. If there is no moisture, the temperature sensor must be replaced. There is a short circuit in the heating water temperature sensor - This malfunction can occur when there is a short circuit in the temperature sensor circuit or the temperature of the water is higher than normal. First you need to measure the resistance of the sensor. If the resistance readings differ from the nominal ones, it is recommended to change the sensor. If installing a working sensor does not produce results, replace the control board. Error code 07/08 - Failure to detect the temperature by the DHW sensor. This circumstance indicates that the temperature sensor of the hot water supply circuit is broken or the required temperature has risen. Possible reasons for which this problem appears: the hot water temperature sensor is broken. Poor contact between the DHW temperature sensor and the control board. Control board faulty. If the hot water temperature sensor is intact and correctly connected to the electronic control board, although the device generates an error, then most likely the electronic board is damaged. Code 09 - Problems with the fan - There is a blockage in the fan impeller. There is no lubricant on the fan shaft, and therefore it does not reach the required speed. There is no contact between the electronic board and the fan. Error code 10 - Insufficient traction. For the correct and uninterrupted operation of the gas unit, it is necessary to create a draft to remove combustion products so that they do not enter the room. The exhaust of gases is controlled automatically, and when certain problems occur, the draft sensor-relay turns on and the boiler stops working. Probable reasons for the lack of draft: limited size of the chimney channel, inaccuracy during installation, blockage, icing of the inner wall. Limiting the size of the smoke exhaust duct causes insufficient draft. The chimney pipe is too long - You must carefully study the instructions for use of the appliance and follow the relevant requirements. A horizontal section of the chimney pipe that is too long can cause a lack of draft. Malfunction of the pressure switch-traction sensor - When a vacuum is applied to the supply tube, a faint click will be noticeable. There is poor contact between the traction sensor-relay and the electronic board, there is condensation, as well as incorrect connection of the tubes to the pneumatic relay. Error code 12 - Problems during ignition. This is displayed when there is no ignition or the burner flame goes out. It is necessary to diagnose the contacts between the ignition unit and the flame electrode, as well as between the board and the gas valve. The main factor in the attenuation of the burner flame may be a lack of draft. Code 13 - Malfunction of the heating / hot water flow sensor. Error code 16 often appears. Why did this happen? This code means that the DHW system coolant has boiled. The heat exchanger is probably clogged, or the thermostat is not set correctly. The following fault has occurred. During ignition, the device displays error code 12 (flame loss). When we reboot, it turns on, but as soon as the burner ignites, you can hear some clicks, and the error is shown again. I replaced the ionization electrode, washed the flow sensor, turned the plug over, but the result was zero. What could it be? This malfunction can occur in three cases. Damage to the flame control electrode. Difficulties with gas supply. The control board is damaged. The device spontaneously interrupted operation and issues code 02. What can be done? Low coolant level in the device or defective pressure switch sensor. First fill the system with water. The gas appliance stops working with error code 10. Cleaning and purging helped for a short time. What to do? This situation indicates weak draft, and the flue gas exhaust system needs to be checked. The membrane may have stuck. I just can’t figure out what is causing the problem? In your case, the main sources of lack of traction may be: a malfunction of the traction sensor pneumatic relay. There is no contact between the air relay sensor and the electronic board. Condensation in the tubes, as well as incorrect connection of the tubes to the pressure switch. There is a problem with the fan. It may be running at low speeds.
