Autonomous heating and hot water supply are an important and necessary element of the improvement of a private house or apartment.
One of the most popular types of equipment that ensures the implementation of these systems are gas boilers.
They are highly efficient, capable of meeting the needs of a certain number of residents, and allow you to set the optimal mode of heating and hot water supply.
A distinctive feature of such equipment is considered to be high efficiency, which is not at all superfluous in the current economic situation.
Let's look at one of the samples of such products, belonging to the Navien family model range.
What is a gas boiler Navien Deluxe Coaxial 24k
The South Korean company KyungDong NAVIEN specializes in the production of heating systems and auxiliary equipment.
Gas boilers from this manufacturer are very popular in Russia because they have high build quality, are relatively cheap, and are adapted to Russian conditions.
Navien Deluxe Coaxial is a reliable and unpretentious equipment, adapted to low pressures of water and gas, resistant to power surges.
The double-circuit boiler Navien Deluxe Coaxial (Navien Deluxe Coaxial) in past years had a different name - Navien Ace 24 E. The letter E means “Euro”, which denotes the coaxial type of chimney.
It is designed according to the “pipe-in-pipe” principle, where the inner part is a chimney, and the outer part is an air duct that provides air supply for turbocharging.
The boiler is a double-circuit boiler that prepares hot water supply and heating systems via separate lines. One of the features of Navien boilers is a separate heat exchanger that separately heats the heating fluid and hot water for domestic needs.
It is made of stainless steel, providing high resistance to corrosion.
IMPORTANT!
The efficiency of a stainless steel heat exchanger is equal to that of copper units thanks to a turbocharging system that supplies air flow into the combustion chamber and increases the flame temperature.
No man is an island. About the features of the single-circuit boiler NAVIEN Deluxe One
First, let's talk about the pressing issue - the obvious advantages of a single-circuit boiler over a double-circuit one. Despite the fact that its main purpose is to heat rooms, installing an indirect heating boiler easily solves the issue of hot water availability. A combination of a 24 kW “single-circuit” and a 200-liter boiler allows you to get up to 260 liters of hot water in the first ten minutes at a temperature difference ?t = 35°C. After this, the characteristics do not differ from a double-circuit boiler and amount to 9.8 l/min. hot water with a difference ?t = 35°C.
Has the need for hot water increased due to self-isolation? No problem, change the boiler to a larger one. Has the expansion tank or three-way valve broken? Without any problems, you can buy any analogue of any brand that suits the parameters. As a result, the system becomes more flexible and allows the consumer to make the necessary changes painlessly. However, such multifunctionality has its price, which is expressed in the larger volume of space occupied by heating equipment.
Now let's return to Deluxe One, because it's worth talking about separately. Almost all the technological know-how of the flagship Deluxe S could fit into its compact size.
This applies to both the closed combustion chamber device and the touch panel with weather-sensitive control. You can connect the NR-40D Wi-Fi remote control to the boiler, which allows you to remotely control the settings via the Smart TOK mobile application. The boiler range consists of capacities of 24, 30 and 35 kW.
It is also necessary to stop briefly at the combustion chamber. When developing a new platform for wall-mounted boilers, a number of design decisions were made aimed at increasing the reliability of the equipment and the quality of combustion. Thus, the dimensions of the main heat exchanger and combustion chamber were increased, which made it possible to reduce the thermal stress of the firebox and reduce the load on the heat exchanger. The technological solutions used reduced the average wall temperature by 13°C. At the same time, the number of burner tracks has been increased.
The main characteristic of Deluxe One is its hydraulic group, which is made according to the type of European heating equipment. It retained the connecting dimensions and most of the elements of Deluxe S. A high-performance pump (pressure 6 m, flow rate 35 l/min), a water pressure sensor and a heating circuit strainer were installed. Instead of a secondary heat exchanger, outputs for connecting an indirect heating tank were installed. No additional kits are required to connect the boiler, and the built-in three-way valve switches the direction of flow of the coolant either to the heating system or to the boiler coil.
You can’t ignore the electronic filling. Unlike other boilers in the new line, Deluxe One received an intuitive touch control panel with an error log viewing function.
The boiler has the ability to be controlled by a room thermostat or an outside air temperature sensor, which guarantees maintaining the set temperature in the room. The control board is protected from voltage surges by an SMPS chip and has a convenient connector for connecting external sensors, including the boiler temperature sensor, which is supplied with the boiler. Among the innovations: when gas pressure drops, the control board switches to operating mode at reduced pressure, preventing the boiler from being blocked. The boiler also uses a universal 60/100 mm coaxial chimney system. Thanks to the use of a modulating fan and an APS sensor (air pressure sensor), the maximum length of the coaxial chimney is 8 m and does not require the installation of throttle washers for different chimney lengths. The APS system monitors the pressure drop across the fan and automatically adjusts the air flow depending on the load and wind pressure, ensuring optimal fuel combustion rates.
The new product will go on sale on the Russian market in early August 2020. All details can be obtained from official distributors and the NAVIEN dealer network.

Device
The Navien Deluxe Coaxial 24 kW gas boiler is equipped with a closed combustion chamber and a separate heat exchanger for coolant and hot water . Produces simultaneous heating of the heating system coolant (HS) and hot water for domestic needs (DHW).
The combustion products are removed using a European (coaxial) smoke removal system.
Under the chimney there is a tubular heat exchanger, below which there is a burner . An 8-liter expansion tank is installed on the left side of the casing, under which there is a circulation pump.
Cold water and coolant entering the boiler pass through heat exchangers and, in a heated state, are sent to the appropriate systems. To regulate the temperature in the systems, a three-way valve is used. Turbocharging is provided by a fan that supplies fresh air to the combustion chamber.
Filling the system through a double-circuit boiler
Now let's look at the simplest method, namely how to fill the heating system of a double-circuit boiler. These units do not require the installation of an additional unit for feeding the heating circuit, since it is included in the basic configuration.
The feed tap is located at the bottom.
Look into the bottom of the boiler. Near the cold water supply pipe from the water supply there should be a plastic handle for the make-up tap. In principle, the procedure is no different from refilling through a water pipe:
- open all air vents;
- open the feed tap and fill the system;
- As the circuit fills, close the air vents;
- we achieve pressure (specified in the boiler passport).
After the pressure in the heating system has reached the required level, the make-up valve closes. He won't be used until next season. It is recommended to change the coolant every year. For more information on how to fill a closed heating system, watch the video below.
For which rooms is it best suited?
Navien gas boilers are designed for heating and providing hot water supply to residential and industrial premises.
In particular, Navien Deluxe Coaxial 24 kW is designed to serve an area of up to 240 m2 . It is ideal for rooms with low water pressure (or pressure differences) and is adapted to voltage fluctuations in the range of 30% of the nominal 230 V.
Most often they are installed in private houses or cottages that have the appropriate area and hot water needs.
NOTE!
The 24 kW Navien boiler model is the most popular, as its properties are optimally suited for most cottages.
Setting up a Navien gas boiler
Next, we’ll look at how to set up a Navien Deluxe gas boiler with your own hands. Manipulations are carried out using a remote control with a built-in room temperature sensor.
Heating settings
To set the heating mode and set the coolant temperature, hold down the button with the image of a radiator until the same icon appears on the screen. If the “radiator” picture blinks, it means that the set coolant temperature is displayed on the screen. If the symbol does not flash, the actual water heating level is displayed.
Navien wall-mounted gas boilers - model range, pros and cons
How they work and what are the advantages of Navien Ace gas boilers
To set the desired temperature, use the “+” and “-” buttons with the “radiator” icon flashing. The possible range is from 40ºC to 80ºC. Once the temperature is set, it will be automatically saved. The “radiator” icon will blink for a few seconds, after which the actual temperature of the coolant will be displayed on the screen.
Heating with air temperature control
To set the desired air temperature in the room, you need to hold down the “radiator” button until the image “house with thermometer” appears on the screen. It means “Heating with room temperature control” mode.
When the “house with thermometer” symbol is flashing, the desired room temperature is displayed on the screen. When the icon is not flashing, the display shows the actual room temperature.
When the icon is flashing, using the “+” and “-” buttons, the desired level of heating in the room is set, adjustable in the range of 10-40ºC. The temperature is then automatically saved and the icon stops flashing.
Setting the hot water temperature
To set the hot water temperature, you need to hold down the “water tap” button until a similar flashing symbol appears in the right corner. You can then set the desired hot water temperature between 30ºC and 60ºC. The settings will be automatically saved and the “water tap” symbol will stop flashing.
Note! In the “Hot water priority” mode, the water heating temperature is regulated differently.
Now let’s look at how to configure the Navien Deluxe gas boiler in the “Hot water priority” mode. To activate it, hold down the “water tap” key until the “faucet and light” symbol appears on the screen. Now you can set the desired temperature using the “+” and “-” keys. While the DHW temperature is changing, the “water tap” icon should flash above the “tap and light” symbol.
The “Hot water priority” mode involves preparing a supply of water at a given temperature even if it is not in use. It allows you to supply heated water to the consumer a few seconds earlier.
Away Mode
The “Away” mode means the gas boiler operates only for preparing hot water. To switch the unit to this mode, you need to press the button that shows an arrow and a water tap. The “water tap” symbol that appears on the screen means that the “Away from Home” mode is set. The actual temperature in the room is displayed next to it.
Note! This mode is convenient for use in the warm season, when hot water supply is necessary, but there is no need for heating.
Setting the Timer mode
The “Timer” mode is necessary to set the time for stopping the operation of the gas boiler within the range from 0 to 12 hours. The unit will work for half an hour, turning off for the specified interval.
To set the “Timer” mode, hold down the “radiator” button until the “clock” symbol appears. When the icon is flashing, use the “+” and “-” keys to set the interval time. The set value is saved, the “clock” stops blinking, and the display shows the actual air temperature.
How does this model differ from others in the series?
First of all, the difference between this model is the power and size of the serviced area. Another important difference is the heat exchanger, which is made of stainless steel rather than copper, as in other Navien lines.
The operational properties of such heat exchangers are somewhat worse, but they are successfully compensated by the presence of modulated pressurization.
A special sensor constantly monitors gas pressure and changes the boost air flow accordingly.
This makes it possible to obtain higher temperature values, resulting in high efficiency of the heat exchanger.
Connection instructions
Installing the boiler is not very difficult. You need to select a location on the wall and install fasteners.
Download instructions
You can download the instructions here.
The wall must be solid, capable of bearing about 30 kg of load . The boiler should not be installed on plasterboard partitions or similar unreliable surfaces. Anchor bolts are used as fasteners to securely hold the structure to the wall.
When installing, it is recommended to use rubber damper panels that soften the hum and prevent it from spreading throughout all rooms through the structure of the house.
To connect to the mains, a separate socket is provided, without the possibility of connecting other consumer devices.
To connect gas and water, appropriate connecting elements are used. It is necessary to use a standard chimney, which is manufactured specifically for such equipment and is purchased separately.
In general, installing a boiler involves installing it on the wall and connecting gas, water and electricity.
The main installation work consists of creating a heating system for the house and installing wiring to water points (bathroom, bathroom, kitchen). These works can be carried out separately, most often they are done in advance, so that after installing the boiler you can immediately start using it.
Tips and recommendations for operating the Navien boiler
The main advice from experts regarding the safe operation of the boiler:
- The room where the unit is located must have good ventilation.
- The unit must have a separate independent connection to the electrical network.
